Abstract: Steel reinforcing bars generally take tensile stress in the reinforced concrete structure. To supply appropriate ductility and tensile strength, the yielding strength should be secured with the restriction of steel specification. Lessons learnt from recent devastating earthquakes in Taiwan and Japan show that some destruction of R. C. structures were caused by the tensile strength of steel reinforcing bars being either insufficient or too high. Consequently, the high quality of steel reinforcing bars is the most important factor for the safety of structure. Therefore, the method of analysis and evaluation for production process capability is used to promote the quality of steel bars to properly supply the required tensile strength and ductility. In this paper, the indices of accurate and precision degree are defined respectively to evaluate the stability and fitness of steel bars quality. Both indices are then combined to define the quality index of steel reinforcing bars. Then, the principle of statistics is used to infer the best estimators of these indices. Finally, the procedure and criteria to evaluate the quality of steel reinforcing bars is proposed. |
Keywords and phrases: the quality index for the tensile strength of steel reinforcing bars, best estimators, the evaluative criteria for the quality of steel bars. |
