Abstract: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a powerful statistical instrument that explores the methods for comparing the means of more than two population means. F-distribution named in honor of Sir Ronald Fisher, utilizes a class of continuous probability distributions in ANOVA. In the present study, one way ANOVA is used to compare the means of the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD5) Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) populations taken from Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC), that are classified in one way, that is Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) according to one factor. The ANOVA revealed that the Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) has highly significant effect on the removal of BOD5, COD, and TSS as; corresponding p-values are less than even 0.01, while level of significance was 0.05. ANOVA is summarized consequently HRTs or between treatment mean squares (1505.96, 4229.36 and 4028.31) are many times larger than the within treatment or error mean squares (12.47, 15.05 and 9.16) respectively. It indicates that it is improbable that the treatment means are equal in three different level, i.e., 2 hours, 2.5 hours and 3 hours. |
