Abstract: Land use change data is useful spatial information to support land use management policy and to facilitate infrastructure for land use planning. The objective of this study was to investigate land use change using historical land use data from 2000 to 2010 in Chiang Mai province, Thailand. The data were obtained from the Thai Department of Land Development. Binary logistic regression was used to predict the urban change. The land use data were divided into northern and southern areas in the old city to compare the changing trends in land use using four categories. The study results provided land use change information based on comparison by land use group in each period. During 2006 to 2008, there was greater change than in any other period; there was a 3.6% decrease in forest land (converted to agriculture land). The total change from 2000 to 2010 was 5.96%. In contrast, the change from agricultural land to urban during 2006 to 2008 was higher than in any other period. The trend toward urbanization in Chiang Mai was higher in the northern area than the southern area. |
