STUDIES ON THE ENHANCEMENT OF DIESEL ENGINE COMBUSTION AND REDUCTION OF EMISSIONS THROUGH THE USE OF POLYMER BASED ADDITIVES
In this work, an attempt has been made to compare the measured performance of a diesel engine and the emission values of smoke and oxides of nitrogen emissions with two PIB-succinic polymer based fuel additives. A detailed analysis on the performance and emission on these samples has been attempted for understanding the effect of the additives on performance. The additives are PIB-succinic anhydride and PIB-maleic anhydride-styrene co-monomer. These two additives have been extensively tested in diesel engines to determine their effect on exhaust emissions. Testing with these additives resulted in exhaust smoke being reduced, while slightly increasing oxides of nitrogen.
