Abstract: This study investigated numerically natural convection flow and heat transfer in a cavity with hot and cold cylinders placed at different positions. The effect of changing the positions of the cylinders on the isotherms and streamlines was studied for various Rayleigh numbers and The present results showed that the locations of hot and cold cylinders have significant effect on streamlines, isotherms, and local Nusselt number. Moreover, the strength of the thermal plume arising from the hot cylinder was found to increasewith an increase in Rayleigh number. Peak value of local Nusselt number was found to occur along the top cold surface for high Rayleigh number of This study suggests that the hot and cold cylinders should be placed along the horizontal centerline of the cavity to achieve high heat transfer from the cold walls of the enclosure. |
