THE EFFECT OF RADIAL FORCE AND STENT PLACEMENT IN THE CAROTID ARTERY
A mathematical model has been developed to investigate the velocity of the blood flow in a carotid artery before and after the stent placement. The existence of the plaque in the blood vessel will give an impact on the size of the radius. Thus, the differences in the size of the radius imply the level of severity of stenosis in the carotid artery. The stent will be placed at the stenosed region of the carotid artery. Further investigation involving an additional factor such as radial force showed that the velocity of the blood flow improved.
