DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-SPEED RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR USING A/D CONVERTER WITH FREQUENCY MODULATION FOR CRYPTOGRAM

Abstract:
We previously proposed a high-speed generation method of physical random numbers using the lowest bit of an A/D converter. In the present paper, we generalize this method to further increase high-speed random number generation and we examine the method from a fundamental point of view. Concretely, a multiple-bit method, which uses not only the lowest bit but two or more of the next lower bits is proposed in order to increase the speed. It is found that many bits can be used for generating random numbers, so that the waveform of the signal input into an A/D converter changes intricately. We propose a new method using frequency modulation to realize high-speed generation. The experiments demonstrate that up to 7 bits can be used and that a speed multiplied by a factor of 7 compared with the previous method using only the lowest bit can be obtained.
