DEVELOPMENT OF RETINA-BASED SECURITY SYSTEM IN AN ANDROID SMARTPHONE
Smartphones require a reliable security system. Generally, various types of passwords are used to provide related security. Most recently, more reliable biometric features such as fingerprint came into use. This work offered a solution to enable smartphone camera to capture the retina image and a special image processing method to extract unique features of retina images that can be compared to those of other retina images as a basis of verification system. The hardware contained a point light source positioned next to the lens of the smartphone camera. The proposed image processing techniques consisted of contrast enhancement, Frangi vesselness filter and Harris-Stephens corner detection algorithm. The proposed system had been implemented in an android application. The application has successfully unlocked the phone by registration of retina image of multi users. The success rate of the application is approximately 91%.
