COMPARISON OF WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK AND WIRELESS LAN FOR DETERMINING POSITION
The tracking system is used for observing of persons or objects on the move and supplying a timely ordered sequence of location data for further processing. All tracking technologies always rely on GPS that works based on satellite. Unfortunately, GPS can only work outside the building, so that if we need a tracking system to be applied in the building, then we must use another technology. For tracking system in building, there are several technologies. In this paper, we discuss two technologies which are WLAN access point and bluetooth low energy (BLE) as the wireless sensor network. We compare the position accuracy of an object using WLAN access point and BLE. Both the techniques are worthy of comparison because both of them work based on received signal strength indicator. In this paper, we use the smartphone as a receiver. The signal strength will be changed into position with the help of trilateration technique. The experiment results show that WLAN access point is more accurate than using BLE. Use of access point will increase the accuracy or better error about 48% compared to use of BLE.
