ANALYSIS ON IC ENGINE PERFORMANCE USING CFD
Internal combustion engines drive the today’s world. Internal combustion engines are also the best reliable source of power. Direct injection natural gas engines are widely used in heavy vehicles too. Performances of such engines can be enhanced by proper design of inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, combustion chamber, piston, etc. Similar to diesel engines, high thermal efficiency is maintained in all direct injection engines. This paper deals with impact of piston head on its performance. Various researches proved that CFD as a successful tool that can be effectively used to predict and analyze the internal combustion engine prior to the experimental test to reduce the time and cost. The objective of this paper is to compare the impact of piston head configuration on temperature and pressure. Dynamic  mesh approach is carried out in CFD simulation. In this study, three  piston configurations were modeled and analyzed using non-premixed combustion of ANSYS Fluent to study the difference in temperature and pressure.
