Abstract: One disadvantage of systematic sampling is that it
cannot offer an unbiased estimator for the variance of
sample mean. In this paper, we review some of the
systematic sampling designs and proposed a modified
circular systematic sampling. The proposed design has
the similar advantage of systematic random sampling
and provides an unbiased estimator for the variance of
sample mean. The main properties of the suggested
sampling scheme will be discussed. In addition, the
efficiency of our proposed sampling scheme in the
presence of certain trends, such as "random",
"permutation", "linear", and "autocorrelated", has
been evaluated in comparison with simple random
sampling, systematic sampling with multiple random
starts and the usual or circular systematic sampling
methods. |
