Abstract: The weights of an estimator in stratified random sampling are derived from the constrained minimization of MSE of the estimator and are shown to be a function of stratum statistics instead of stratum totals. Four new estimators are proposed with the selection criteria. The biases and the relative efficiencies of the new estimators are compared with the traditional estimators in stratified random sampling, the Kadilar-Cingi estimator and the modified Sisodia-Dwivedi estimator. From the simulation results and real-life data sets, the efficiencies of the new estimators relative to the corresponding traditional estimators are between 0.93-1.60. |
Keywords and phrases: bias, combined ratio estimator, relative efficiency, stratified sample mean estimator. |
