Abstract: In this work, the nonlinear (conduction-radiation) heat transfer in a fin is considered, taking into account the interaction between the fin and the surface in which the fin is placed. When the temperature levels are high, the radiation heat exchange cannot be neglected and, therefore, the nonlinear mathematical description becomes inexorable. The mathematical description consists of a nonlinear ordinary differential equation. The thermal radiation, emerging from the surface, reaches the fin, and gives rise to a source term in the differential equation. This source depends on the temperature of the surface and on the shape of the set (fin + surface). Numerical results are presented with the aid of a variational principle associated with a piecewise linear continuous approximation for the temperature distribution. |
