USING SMARTPHONE APPLICATION TO EXPAND THE PARTICIPATION IN LIFELONG EDUCATION FOR ADULT DISABLED

Abstract: This study aims to provide lifelong education information by establishing a lifelong education support system using smartphone applications to increase participation in lifelong education for adults with disabilities. Disabled adults who have completed special education during school years need to learn through lifelong education to continue their self-reliance life and keep their lives as members of a society. However, adults with disabilities cannot have the same chances of learning than non-disabled, even though they are also need a lifelong education. In particular, most adults with disabilities participate in lifelong education programs at the Welfare Center and local lifelong education institutions but there are only a few of education facilities and equipment without considering the characteristics of the disabled, so that education for the disabled and non-disabled is not integrated properly. Also, adults with disabilities have difficulty acquiring information and knowledge compared to those with non-disabled people, and excluded from opportunities for social participation. The study aims to utilize smartphone applications that have been reported to promote social participation of the disabled to provide lifelong education information for the disabled. It also targets to help social interaction between the disabled and the non-disabled. |
