Abstract: In the past, many dimethyl ether (DME) engine researchers have studied DME combustion characteristics and exhaust gas characteristics. Although various studies have been performed, the correlation between engine performance and exhaust gas characteristics by varying the fuel injection pressure has not been determined fully. This study aims to fill the gap.
Our results indicate that the optimal performance of the brake thermal efficiency is obtained at 50MPa fuel injection pressure. The pilot injection solved the problem regarding the exhaust gas, especially NOx that is a difficult problem with the existing DME engine. Consequently, NOx is reduced by 30% owing to pilot injection.
