EFFECTS OF TUBE LOCATION ON POOL BOILING HEAT TRANSFER

Abstract: An experimental study was performed to identify effects of a horizontal pitch of a tube array and the heat flux of a lower tube on saturated pool boiling heat transfer. Two smooth stainless steel tubes of 19mm diameter and the water at atmospheric pressure were used for the study. The horizontal pitch was varied from 0 to 76mm while the heat flux of the lower tube was changing from 0 to 120kW/m2. The increase of the lower tube heat flux enhances enough of heat transfer when the upper tube is at low heat fluxes. The increase of the horizontal pitch eventually deteriorates heat transfer. The major causes of the tendency are closely related to the convection flow and the interference generated by the upward flow. |
