By introducing a more general auxiliary ODE, a modified auxiliary ODE technique is developed to uniformly construct the explicit exact solutions of sinh-Poisson type equations. We demonstrate its effectiveness by applications to sinh-Poisson equation and double sinh-Poisson equation. Therefore, many explicit exact solutions including some novel formal solutions are successfully derived in a forthright way.
