Hot deformation characteristics of Al-Cu-Mg-Fe-Ni aluminium alloy have been studied in the temperature range 350-470°C and strain rate range 0.001-0.4 s–1 using hot compression tests. Hot processing map and TEM images of the aluminium alloy have been used in the study. The power dissipation efficiency of the aluminium alloy increases from upper left corner to lower right corner in power dissipation map. The best processing region is in high temperature-low strain rate domain, in which the aluminium alloy exhibits coarse equiaxed grain structure with straight grain boundaries, which have an obvious recrystallization process.
