INTEGRATED CBR APPROACH IN CAD/CAM ENVIRONMENT FOR MACHINING FIXTURES DESIGN FOR PRISMATIC WORKPIECES

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to provide a method that used an approach based on artificial intelligence techniques and to propose to develop an automated fixturing system for prismatic parts using cases based reasoning. This method allows to planner for a new workpiece retrieving a relevant case of machining fixture similar to a new desired workpiece and then adapting the retrieved case to meet the new machining features requirements. It is started with the creation of case base containing several cases of machining features associated with their fixtures, by respecting the characteristics suggested by each feature, as well as the means of production existing and available in machining workshop. The machining parts considered are prismatic parts and the features are prismatic machining feature including simple features and interacting features. A software system is implemented using design by features as input and output format. Example parts are tested and discussed.
