DEVELOPMENT OF CRANIAL IMPLANT THROUGH INCREMENTAL SHEET FORMING FOR MEDICAL ORTHOPEDIC APPLICATIONS
J. Castelan, A. Daleffe, L. Schaeffer, J. Casagrande, V. Gruber and D. Fritzen
Abstract:
This paper presents research on titanium sheet cranial implants, used to replace the bone layer destroyed in accidents, via incremental sheet forming. The aim was to produce parts with better geometric conformity to a corresponding digital model obtained from computed tomography images. We determined the mechanical and biomedical titanium sheets F67 - grade 2, made the incremental sheet forming and evaluated the results related to costs as well as final product quality. Through manufacturing software, we were able to generate tool paths used in the machining center to make both the mold and the parts.
Keywords and phrases:
incremental sheet forming, CAD, CAM, titanium sheet.
