Abstract: Mode III crack tip fields for a bimaterial
semi-infinite layer of height h with a
middle edge-crack of depth a are
derived in a closed form. The special case, when the characteristics material
constant vanishes is in agreement with known
results for the homogeneous layer. The energy release rate is shown to be of the
standard form known for other geometries. An expression is obtained for which extends the one known for the
homogeneous case. The behaviour of is shown to depend on that of the
homogeneous case as
