ARE EFFICIENT EXPORTERS THE REAL LEADING EXPORTERS? AN EXAMINATION OF FLOWER AND ORNAMENTAL PLANTS SECTOR
The aim of present research is to investigate the comparative advantage of main world exporters of flower and ornamental plants. To this end, three relevant indexes, namely; revealed comparative advantage, symmetric revealed comparative advantage, and the new revealed comparative advantage have been calculated for the period of 2009-2018. Main findings showed that Kenya, Ecuador, Colombia, and Netherlands have the highest value of revealed comparative advantage (RCA). The new RCA (productivity based index) provided different results as ranks Netherlands, Germany, Thailand, and Italy among the most efficient exporters. Both the above rankings are different from the real observed grouping. Other results showed that the degree of trade specialization in the sector is gradually increasing in the leading exporting countries.
