ON THE GENDER BASED AND COMBINED TRANSIENT ELEPHANT POPULATION PROJECTION AT AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK, KENYA
In this paper, we compare two projection results. First we project both female and male elephants independently and then project a combination of both males and males taking average of the vital rates. The Leslie population projection matrix that factors the present population state of the African elephant population is used to project these populations several years into the future. Fertility rates, survival rates and base populations of the populations are used as variables in the matrix. Matlab software is used to analyze the Elephant populations dynamics at Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Further, it is used to obtain transient results over a similar period of time and a comparison of the results done. It is assumed that the current conditions at Amboseli remain the same over the said period.
