MATHEMATICS USED IN THE INDONESIAN’S TRADITIONAL BUILDINGS
Some remains in the past have proven that some of local people use mathematics in their daily life as a tool consciously or unconsciously. The development of affine geometry and projective geometry help mathematician to explain some of mathematical shapes specially in relation with the traditional house. This article aims to describe the geometrical shape of some of traditional buildings in Indonesia using a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the result and the discussion, there are some important points relating to the traditional buildings and mathematics: (a) traditional buildings are divided into simple house type 1, simple house type 2, parabolas simple house and paraboloid simple house, (b) the traditional houses are reflections of their traditional cultural heritage, (c) some of ancient people projected their spiritual beliefs in their traditional buildings.
