MICROSTRUCTURE OF CNT/STEEL NANOCOMPOSITES AND THEIR CHARACTERISTICS
The CNT/Steel nanocomposites are fabricated by adding carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into molten steel. The CNTs are well dispersed in raw steel using forging process. The nanocomposites are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) and mechanical measurements. The result shows that the CNT/Steel nanocomposites have excellent mechanical properties such as hardness because the CNTs are highly graphitized at high temperature with molten steel. Due to the addition of CNTs, the surface hardness of steel surface increases, and the stress-corrosion cracking of the CNT/Steel nanocomposites can be found to be reduced.
