USE OF PARETO CHARTS AND PRINCIPLE COMPONENT ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE THE MAIN REASONS FOR TRAIN ACCIDENTS IN EGYPT

Abstract: In recent years, train accidents have become usual events in Egypt, and every year there is an increase in train accidents according to the reports of CAMPAS. So we must find the reasons for these accidents and try to avoid these to keep people’s lives. The Pareto Principle is known as the 80/20 rule. It means that 20% of a systems defects cause 80% of its problems. Principal component analysis is a variable reduction procedure. It is appropriate method when we have obtained measures on a number of observed variables and wish to develop a smaller number of artificial variables (called principal components) that will account for most of the variances in the observed variables. |
Keywords and phrases: principle component analysis (PCA), Pareto chart (PC), train accidents, multivariate analysis, maximum likelihood. |
