Abstract: The multistage percentile ranked set sampling procedure (MPRSS) and its properties for estimating the population mean are introduced. The performance of MPRSS with respect to simple random sampling (SRS), ranked set sampling (RSS), median ranked set sampling (MRSS) and extreme ranked set sampling for estimating the population mean is considered. It is shown that the MPRSS estimator of the population mean is an unbiased and more efficient than the SRS estimator for symmetric distributions about its mean. For asymmetric distributions considered in this study, MPRSS estimator has a smaller bias. |
