POOL BOILING HEAT TRANSFER ON THE INSIDE SURFACE OF AN INCLINED TUBE

Abstract: An experimental study was carried out to investigate the changes in pool boiling heat transfer coefficients on the inside surface of a circular tube submerged in saturated water at atmospheric pressure. The internal diameter and the length of the heated tube were 16.2mm and 400mm, respectively. The inclination angle was varied from the horizontal position to the vertical position in steps of 15°. Results for the inclination angles larger than 30° are almost same. However, the heat transfer coefficients for the inclination angles less than 15° show much difference. The main cause for the tendencies was considered as the difference in the intensity of liquid agitation and bubble coalescence due to the confined fluid flow. One of the important mechanisms was the microlayer evaporation under a large size bubble. To predict the heat transfer coefficients an empirical correlation has been developed and the developed correlationpredicts the measured experimental data within ±4%error bound. |
